I am not a dev, but please help me. Searched everywhere can’t find any solution. Using Mac, trying to install Joomla, installed MAMP (free version). When trying to install joomla the following error appears: You need MySQL 8.0.13 or higher to continue the installation. Your version is: 5.7.39
Tried to install a newer version of MySQL however MAMP still shows the 5.7.39 version of MySQL. Please help me to complete the installation.
Troubleshooting MySQL Version for Joomla Installation on MAMP
Understanding the Issue:
The error message indicates that your MAMP installation is using an older version of MySQL (5.7.39), which is incompatible with Joomla’s requirements (8.0.13 or higher).
Solutions:
1. Upgrade MySQL within MAMP:
If MAMP allows you to upgrade MySQL, follow these steps:
Open MAMP Preferences: Go to Applications > MAMP > Preferences .
Check for MySQL Upgrade: Look for an option to upgrade MySQL. This might be under the Environment or Servers tab.
Follow Upgrade Instructions: If available, follow the instructions provided by MAMP to upgrade MySQL to a compatible version (8.0.13 or higher).
2. Install a Newer Version of MAMP:
If MAMP doesn’t offer an in-app upgrade, consider installing a newer version of MAMP that includes a more recent MySQL version. Check the MAMP website for the latest version and download/install it.
3. Install MySQL Separately:
If you prefer more control over your MySQL installation, you can install it separately using a package manager like Homebrew:
Install Homebrew: If you haven’t already, install Homebrew:
Install MySQL: Use Homebrew to install MySQL 8.0 or higher:
Configure MAMP: Adjust MAMP’s settings to use the newly installed MySQL instance. This might involve changing the MySQL port and other related settings.
Additional Tips:
Check Joomla Requirements: Ensure that your MAMP configuration meets the minimum requirements for Joomla installation (e.g., PHP version, memory limits).
Verify MySQL Version: After making changes, verify that MAMP is using the correct MySQL version by checking its configuration or running MySQL commands in the terminal.
Consult MAMP Documentation: Refer to MAMP’s official documentation for specific instructions related to your version and configuration.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully install a compatible MySQL version and proceed with your Joomla installation.
